Lemon Verbena has been a popular botanical tea for centuries and was first brought to Europe by Spanish explorers returning from Argentina and Chile. In some European countries it is known variously as Herb Louisa, Limonetto or Verveine Citronelle, Lemon Verbena (the North American name) brews into an aromatic tea with a distinctive citrus flavor and calming, stomach soothing properties.* Often referred to as being the most "tea-worthy" of all garden herbs, Lemon Verbena is popular as an after dinner tisane in France where it is called French Verveine.
Heat water (filtered, if possible) to a low boil, add one teaspoon of loose leaves per cup (apprx. 8 ounces). Infuse the leaves for 4–5 minutes depending on taste preference. The lemon verbena leaves have a natural mellow citrus flavor that can be enjoyed plain or with honey.
Lemon Verbena also can be brewed to make a wonderful ICED TEA. Brew using the same instructions as above but increase the amount of leaves per cup to a tablespoon in order to strenghthen the flavor to be able to hold up to the addition of ice.
